Pianist, singer, writer, radio and television presenter, Ben Sidran is a true erudite of the jazz world. Humour, spontaneity and subtlety are the key words of this charming gentleman.
It’s impossible to understand the impact Bob Dylan had on the US in the 60’s if you weren’t there to witness it. He seemed to appear from nowhere, writing and composing songs that opened people’s eyes. Millions started to do as Dylan himself, and pretty soon everyone had caught the Dylan bug, he had spread into every inch of popular music! Even though I was a jazz fan at this stage of my life, I listened to every one of his albums as soon as they were released. It was only a few years ago that I started to interpret his songs on stage. They are moving to sing, everyone loves to hear his songs. I adapted them and personalised them adding my own touch. Bob Dylan’s creativity, just like Garcia Lorca’s before him, filtered into social structures going as far as correcting old mistakes and bringing innovating ideas. He helped to invent the future, and it took me 40 years to realise I had a debt towards Dylan. This project is something I have been wanting to do for a long time and I’m very happy to have done it.
